Did you receive a call from an enthusiastic Bristol student over the past few months? A team of 35 students from diverse disciplines spoke with over 1,500 alumni during this academic year. As a community, you have raised an incredible £170,000 for student support initiatives at Bristol – widening access to higher education and ensuring all students thrive, no matter their background.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to talk during the 2024/25 telethon! Our student ambassadors enjoyed speaking with you and truly valued your insights and encouragement.
Olivia, second-year Electrical and Electronic Engineering student and Futures Scholarship recipient shared:
‘I really appreciated hearing what alumni, particularly those who studied my subject, had gone onto do once leaving Bristol. Many of the people I spoke to gave me genuine advice which I am truly grateful for.’
Even brief conversations make a big impact – helping students navigate their options, gain confidence, and feel supported by a global network of Bristol graduates. As Jamie, a second-year Anthropology student says:
‘Speaking to the Alumni was such an interesting experience. Hearing about their lives and jobs really helped me home in on the things I think are valuable for life after university. I had some insightful chats that made me feel more confident about going into work, but I also found a connection to alumni that I didn’t think would come about.’
Sharing your experience is invaluable, and we deeply appreciate your support.
Your time and advice will help Bristol students to succeed professionally like you did. If you would like to connect with more students or offer mentorship, explore our alumni volunteering opportunities.
Thanks to you and your generous alumni community, over 500 students have the financial security offered by scholarships in 2024/25.
With the continuing rise of living costs, many students are balancing paid work alongside their studies – leaving less time for friendships, clubs, and societies. Your support helps break down these barriers, allowing them to fully experience life at Bristol.
After speaking to alumni from various industries and disciplines, Olivia, Futures Scholarship recipient reflects:
‘One vital belief, common amongst the majority of whom I spoke to, was the importance of making the most of my time at university and exploiting every opportunity I am given. This feeling is what prompted many alumni to generously donate so that everyone at the university can access these chances.’
At a time of uncertainty, your wisdom and encouragement mean more than you may realise. You’ve inspired the next generation of Bristol alumni – thank you.
‘I’ve had some of the funniest, kindest, and most inspirational conversations during the telethons I’ve taken part in. From discussing books and faith, to sharing life advice that I’ll never forget. To one alumnus in particular: it is never too late to learn something new. Find something you enjoy. You are worth it.’ – Emma, MSc Global Wildlife Health and Conservation.
